British Prince William has Indian ancestor, DNA experts say

LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- Recent research has produced evidence suggesting Britain's Prince William has blood relatives from India on his mother's side, BritainsDNA announced.

The heir to the British throne has been genetically linked to Eliza Newark, a part-Indian housekeeper for his great-great-great-great-great maternal grandfather, Theodore Forbes. Forbes was a Scottish merchant who worked for the East India Co. in Surat, Sky News said.

"This is a great example of how genetics can be used to answer specific historical questions and uncover fascinating facts about our ancestry," said Dr. Jim Wilson, a genetics expert at the University of Edinburgh and chief scientist at BritainsDNA.

Prince William and his wife Kate are to become first-time parents next month.
