Later in the day, there were re-enactments of life at the time of the battle and of military maneuvers.

The Battle of York -- part of the War of 1812 the United States and the British Empire -- was fought April 27, 1813, in what is now Toronto. The battle was won by American forces.

Rick Peterson, who attended the re-enactments in full military dress, said: "We are helping bring history alive. We are making it real to Canadians."
