Broadway's 'The Heiress' closes

NEW YORK, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Producers of the Broadway revival of "The Heiress," starring Jessica Chastain, said they will recoup their $3 million investment as the production ends.

The play's final performance is scheduled for Saturday evening, ending the production one day earlier than originally planned so Chastain may attend the British Academy of Film and Television Awards, for which she is nominated for her role in "Zero Dark Thirty."

Including the final performance, "The Heiress" will have played 27 previews and 117 regular performances since its opening night Nov. 1, Playbill reported.

Written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, the show also starred Judith Ivey, David Strathairn and Dan Stevens. It was helmed by playwright and director Moises Kaufman.

Set in New York, "The Heiress" is a love story about a "protected young woman caught between her steely, grief-stricken father and a mysterious, handsome suitor," a synopsis said.

The play is an adaptation of the Henry James novella, "Washington Square."
