LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. TV personality Katie Couric said talk show host Larry King once "lunged" at her when she went on a date with him in the late 1980s in Washington.
During an interview on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Couric said she was 30 when she agreed to go on a date with King -- who would have been approximately 53 at the time -- because she was going out with anyone who asked because "you learn something" with someone new.
They went out to dinner and he took her back to his place, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
"And I'm like, Dear Cosmo, what do I do?" Couric said. "I'm in this crisis situation. I was only 30. I just could not figure out how to extricate myself from it.
"So we sat there," she said, "and, what can I say -- he lunged.
"And I, I almost started -- I love Larry, by the way, I do love him -- I started laughing a little bit because the whole situation was like out of a bad Lifetime movie," Couric said. "So I said, 'Larry, you're such an interesting, nice man, but I would like to meet someone a little closer to my age.'"
Couric said King responded "That's OK -- because when I like, I really like."
