LOS ANGELES, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Kara DioGuardi's publicist says the former "American Idol" judge became a first-time mother after her gestational surrogate gave birth to her son.

Greyson James Carroll McCuddy weighed in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces when he was born Thursday in Los Angeles, People.com reported.

Songwriter DioGuardi married contractor Mike McCuddy in 2009.

People.com said DioGuardi, 42, has a history of miscarriages and failed fertility attempts.

"She's given us an incredible gift," DioGuardi recently told the celebrity magazine of the surrogate.
