BALTIMORE, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Organizers at the Edgar Allan Poe House in Baltimore say the tourist attraction may reopen as early as this fall.

The Poe House, which lost funding from the city of Baltimore in 2010, has been closed to the public since Sept. 28, The Baltimore Sun reported. Supporters are seeking to obtain official nonprofit designation for the house where Poe lived for two years in the early 1830s

"Though we're still in the early stages, things are picking up steam," said Mark Redfield, vice president of the board of directors for Poe Baltimore, the nonprofit organization created to run the Poe House and Museum. "At this point, we don't have a specific date to reopen. But we're hoping it will happen sometime this fall."

Redfield and Poe Museum curator Jeff Jerome have been raising money for the museum independently.

On Saturday, the two held a party in honor of Edgar Allan Poe's 204th birthday, which brought in between $2,000 and $3,000 for the museum.
