MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Chris Kluwe, the Minnesota Vikings punter known as an advocate of gay marriage, has a book of essays coming out titled "Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies."

Little Brown, the publisher, said the book will hit the stores on June 25, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

"Chris Kluwe's book is just like Chris Kluwe, sharp-tongued, forthright and committed to exposing and eviscerating our society's density as quickly and completely as possible," John Parsley, his editor, said in a news release.

Kluwe stopped writing a blog for the Pioneer Press last year because of the newspaper's support of a Minnesota effort to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The amendment failed.

He also wrote an open letter to a Maryland official who opposed the successful move to legalize gay marriage there. Assemblyman Emmet Burns had asked the Baltimore Ravens to quiet a team member who openly backed gay marriage.

Kluwe, who has been with the Vikings since 2005, is also bassist with a Minneapolis band, Tripping Icarus. He is married and has two children.
