The latest news on today's hottest celebrities ...

JANET JACKSON: U.S. pop star Janet Jackson is engaged to Qatari billionaire Wissam al-Mana, her boyfriend of two years, UsMagazine.com reported Wednesday.

Al-Mana "gave her a huge, expensive ring," an insider told the celebrity magazine.

"She's afraid it will get lost, so she keeps it locked up!"

A spring wedding in Qatar is being planned, the report said.

J.J. ABRAMS: Hollywood writer-producer-director J.J. Abrams says he talked with Lucasfilm about helming the seventh "Star Wars" film, but decided against it.

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to 'Star Trek,' and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things," Abrams told Empire Magazine. "I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Abrams is the co-creator of TV's "Lost." He has also directed installments of the "Mission: Impossible" and "Star Trek" film franchises.

Lucasfilm founder George Lucas sold the company to Disney this year for more than $4 billion. Shortly after the deal was made, it was announced sequels to the existing six "Star Wars" films are in the works, but no directors have been hired yet for the projects.

LADY GAGA: American pop star Lady Gaga announced via Twitter fashion photographer Terry Richardson is directing a documentary about her life.

"Merry Christmas little monsters!" the singer tweeted Tuesday. "Terry Richardson ‪@Terry_World‬ is making a ‪#LadyGagaMOVIE‬ documenting my life, the creation of ARTPOP + you!"

"Artpop" is the name of Lady Gaga's latest album, which is set for release in the spring.

The Hollywood Reporter said the recording artist didn't mention when the documentary is set for release or its title.

STEVE BURTON: U.S. actor Steve Burton, who left "General Hospital" three months ago after more than 20 years, is to join the cast of "The Young & The Restless."

TVGuide.com cited unnamed but reliable sources for the casting news, noting CBS has not confirmed it yet.

Burton is good friends with "Y&R" executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, his former boss at "GH" and a collaborator on a upcoming telenovela project, TVGuide.com said.

The actor's new character and storyline on "Y&R" were not immediately known.
