Silverstone-Winkler play 'The Performers' to close Sunday

NEW YORK, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- "The Performers," a new Broadway stage comedy starring Alicia Silverstone and Henry Winkler, is to close Sunday after seven performances, producers said.

David West Read's porn-themed romantic comedy also will have played 23 previews before it shuts its doors. Set at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas, it was directed by Evan Cabnet and co-stars Cheyenne Jackson, Ari Graynor, Daniel Breaker and Jenni Barber.

"'The Performers' was that brand new show on the block that was building strong word-of-mouth during its first week of previews, only to be halted by the insurmountable after-effects of Hurricane Sandy: lack of transportation, power outages and gas shortages chief among them," the show's producers said in a statement Thursday.
