All Broadway shows back on schedule

NEW YORK, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- All Broadway shows were back up and running Thursday in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, theater officials said.

All plays and musicals on the Great White Way were canceled Sunday through Tuesday.

Although most productions resumed Wednesday, several favorites including "Evita," "Jersey Boys," "The Lion King," "Mary Poppins" and "Scandalous," remained dark. They were back on schedule Thursday, however.

"The show must go on, and Broadway shows are doing just that," Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, said in a statement Wednesday. "As of tomorrow, all Broadway shows are playing as scheduled. We are aware that some of our fans are still unable to get to the theater, and our thoughts are with them. For cooped-up New Yorkers and out-of-town visitors who are staying in hotels and can't get home, now is a great time to see a show."
