NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- "Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham is being paid more than $3.5 million for her first collection of essays, The New York Times reported Monday.

Random House won a bidding war to publish "Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned," penned by the 26-year-old Emmy Award nominee.

The Times said Random House spokeswoman Theresa Zoro declined to comment on amount of the advance the publisher bestowed on Dunham.

"We're thrilled to welcome Lena to Random House," Susan Kamil, editor in chief and publisher of Random House, said in a statement to the Times Monday. "Her skill on the page as a writer is remarkable -- fresh, wise, so assured. She is that rare literary talent that will only grow from strength to strength and we look forward to helping her build a long career as an author."
