NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Scarlett Johansson, Ciaran Hinds, Benjamin Walker and Debra Monk are to headline a Broadway revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," producers said Thursday.

The new production of playwright Tennessee Williams' stage drama will be directed by Rob Ashford. The show will begin preview performances Dec. 18 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Opening night is set for Jan. 17.

"Big Daddy Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is about to celebrate his 65th birthday. He is distressed by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has turned to drink, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie," a synopsis said. "As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies and suppressed sexuality reach a boiling point."

Additional casting and the design team will be announced soon, the producers said.
