Divorce in NYC could cause Cruise tax woes
NEW YORK, June 30 (UPI) -- Katie Holmes filed divorce papers in New York City, something that could cost Tom Cruise more in taxes than if the filing took place in California, TMZ said.
Sources told TMZ Holmes filed the divorce documents in New York because she felt she'd have a better chance of winning sole legal custody of the couple's daughter Suri there than in California.
Cruise, however, is trying to move the divorce proceedings to California -- where the couple has a residence -- because the tax rates are significantly lower, TMZ reported.
The "Mission Impossible" actor has been trying to make it appear as though he and Holmes have not been living in New York, sources told the celebrity news Web site. Meanwhile, Holmes has been using a New York apartment Cruise deeded to her to establish residency in the city.
Bristol Palin loses prime-time slot
LOS ANGELES, June 30 (UPI) -- A reality show featuring Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has been pulled from its prime-time slot, Lifetime confirmed.
"Life's a Tripp," which follows the lives of Palin and her son, Tripp, in Los Angeles, debuted last week to 726,000 viewers, sinking to 586,000 viewers in its second week, The Hollywood Reporter Reported.
Lifetime has moved the reality show from its 10 p.m. slot to 11 p.m., replacing it with re-runs of "Dance Moms."
Meanwhile, Palin and the producers of "Life's a Tripp," are facing a lawsuit from brothers Christopher and Kyle Massey over an unrealized reality series for BIO, THR reported.
Kyle Massey, who was a cast mate with Palin on "Dancing With the Stars," said the Lifetime series was the Masseys' idea.
Erin Andrews leaves ESPN, headed to Fox?
HOLLYWOOD, June 30 (UPI) -- ESPN has announced the departure of U.S. sportscaster Erin Andrews, who appears to be in talks to make a move to Fox Sports.
A source at ESPN, whose name was not reported, told Sports Illustrated the network had made an "aggressive offer" to keep Andrews, 34, before her contract expires at the end of June.
Andrews' agent declined to comment on her plans now that she has left the network, but it appears she might join Fox Sports, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.
Sources with knowledge of Fox's plans said it's almost certain Andrews will take a role at the network, THR said.
Andrews most recently has hosted the ESPN College Gameday preshow. In her eight years at the network, she has covered Major League Baseball, the College World Series, and college basketball and football.
In 2008, she was at the center of a stalking case in which a man watched her through peepholes at her hotel rooms in Nashville and Milwaukee. The man was sentenced to 30 months in prison and is scheduled to be released next month, THR said.
Usher stalker admitted for mental check
JOHNS CREEK, Ga., June 30 (UPI) -- A woman police arrested for trespassing at U.S. recording artist Usher's Georgia home was later admitted to a hospital for mental evaluation, TMZ reported.
Police arrested Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw, 26, Sunday for disobeying a criminal trespass warning they issued to her the day before, a report from the Johns Creek Police Department said.
Usher had seen the woman sitting on his porch using her iPad and called police, who, upon identifying the woman, detained her. Jailers refused to take custody of Jones-Rakestraw due to her apparent mental state, and she was admitted to Emory Johns Creek Hospital for a mental evaluation, the report said.
Jones-Rakestraw insisted she was Usher's wife and that he makes all her decisions, though Usher is currently not married, TMZ reported.
The woman was released from the hospital and is due in court next month to face trespassing charges.
