Report: Cruise and Holmes divorcing
LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are ending their five-year marriage, the actress' attorney told People.com Friday.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," lawyer Jonathan Wolfe told the celebrity news Web site. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
No reason was given for the split.
The couple married in November 2006 and are the parents of a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
Cruise also has two adult children from his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman. Actress Mimi Rogers was his first wife.
This was Holmes' first marriage.
Amy Winehouse's former beau charged with rape
LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- The man British singer Amy Winehouse was dating when she died last year has been charged in London with suspicion of rape, authorities said.
Reg Traviss, a 35-year-old film director, was arrested Thursday for two incidents that allegedly occurred in January. He denies the allegations and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court in London July 17, The Sun newspaper reported.
No other details regarding the alleged crimes were immediately available.
Traviss began dating Winehouse in June 2010.
The Grammy Award-winning recording artist died of alcohol poisoning last summer at age 27 after years of battling addictions to drugs and alcohol.
Guthrie sits in for Curry on 'Today'
NEW YORK, June 29 (UPI) -- Savannah Guthrie sat in for outgoing co-anchor Ann Curry on Friday morning's edition of "Today" in New York.
Curry tearfully confirmed on Thursday's show she had been ousted after a year as co-host with Matt Lauer, but she said she would continue working for NBC News as a national/international correspondent.
Guthrie, who has been rumored to be replacing Curry, was by Lauer's side Friday; however, NBC has not said she is permanently taking over the post.
Rivera, Chase to star in 'Edwin Drood'
NEW YORK, June 29 (UPI) -- Stephanie J. Block, Will Chase, Gregg Edelman, Jim Norton and Chita Rivera are to star in the Broadway revival of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," producers said.
The Roundabout Theatre Company said Thursday previews of the mystery musical comedy are to begin Oct. 19, with an official opening set for Nov. 29 at Studio 54.
Directed by Scott Ellis, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" will have choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by Paul Gemignani.
"Who killed Edwin Drood? It's a question that has stumped audiences for years -- now it's your turn to answer one of Broadway's most baffling mysteries," a synopsis said. "Take a trip back in time to a Victorian music hall where a rowdy ensemble of actors mounts a staging of Charles Dickens' unfinished novel. Everyone on stage is a suspect in the murder of young Edwin Drood -- and it's up to you to choose the killer! Is it John Jasper, Edwin's protective but slightly maniacal uncle? Rosa Bud, his reluctant betrothed? The debauched Princess Puffer? Each performance ends differently, depending on what the audience decides."
