GHAZALA JAVED: Famed Pakistani pop singer Ghazala Javed was killed in a drive-by shooting in northwest Pakistan, police said.

CNN reported Javed was leaving a hair salon Monday night with her father when their vehicle was sprayed with gunfire from assailants on motorcycles. She was hit with six bullets. She and her father were later pronounced dead at a hospital in Peshawar.

Javed made headlines last year when she asked her husband for a divorce after finding out he had at least one other wife. In Pakistan's male-dominated and heavily conservative society, a woman desiring a divorce is seen to be dishonoring her husband.

Javed skirted the Taliban moratorium against singing and dancing, recording her latest popular Pashto songs and videos in nearby Dubai.

Authorities said Taliban involvement is not suspected. Police have named Javed's ex-husband as a suspect.

JOHNNY DEPP: Johnny Depp's publicist confirmed Tuesday the Hollywood film star has broken up with his longtime partner, French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis.

The couple were together 14 years, and have a son and daughter.

Depp denied rumors of a split last month, but his representative confirmed Tuesday the romantic relationship has ended.

"Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children," the actor's publicist told "Entertainment Tonight."

ANGELINA JOLIE: Hollywood's Walt Disney Studios says production has begun on "Maleficent," with Angelina Jolie playing the villain from the fairytale "Sleeping Beauty."

"Maleficent" is written by Linda Woolverton and co-stars Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. The film reveals the events that hardened the title character's heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora, Disney said in a synopsis.

The live-action movie is being directed by production designer Robert Stromberg in his directorial debut.

"Maleficent" is scheduled for release in 3-D March 14, 2014. The studio announced Tuesday production began June 13.

RAY ROMANO: Emmy-winning actor Ray Romano is set to guest star on the upcoming season of the U.S. drama series "Parenthood," NBC said Tuesday.

In a multi-episode arc, Romano will play a photographer and former photo-journalist who befriends Sarah, played by Lauren Graham, and complicates her relationship with Mark, played by Jason Ritter.

Romano's character will be introduced in the show's Season 4 premiere Sept. 11.

The comedian and actor is best known for his work on TV's "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Men of a Certain Age."
