SOUTH BEACH, Fla., June 10 (UPI) -- The Florida mansion where fashion designer Gianni Versace was shot dead is for sale for $125 million, a real estate firm said.

The South Beach residence has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a 54-foot gold-lined pool and spans 19,000 square feet, real estate agents at Coldwell Banker said.

Versace purchased the mansion in 1992 and spent $33 million on expanding and renovating it, CNN reported. The fashion designer was later shot to death on the doorstep of the home in 1997 by spree killer Andrew Cunanan.

Peter Loftin bought the house in 2000 and left Versace's renovations as is, CNN reported.

"This is an iconic oasis for the rich-and-famous that sits in the middle of South Beach," Loftin said in a statement. "It's a one-of-a-kind property, created by a genius; that is a piece of art, and a piece of history."

The mansion was built in 1930 and was modeled off of the oldest existing house in the Western Hemisphere, the Alcazar de Colon in Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic, Coldwell Banker said. The Alcazar de Colon is this only known residence of the family of explorer Christopher Columbus, a Web site for the building says.
