Jessica Simpson gives birth to daughter
LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- Singer-actress Jessica Simpson announced on her Web site Tuesday she has given birth to her first child, a daughter named Maxwell Drew, in Los Angeles.
Simpson, 31, began dating former NFL player Eric Johnson, 32, in May 2010. The couple was engaged six months later and announced their baby news last Halloween, People.com said.
"Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson," the message on Simpson's Web site said Tuesday. "We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!"
Simpson said her daughter weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces when she was born.
Clark's co. wins Globes legal battle
SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 1 (UPI) -- Dick Clark Productions says it has won its legal battle with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and will keep producing the Golden Globe Awards.
The HFPA presents the Globes, which honor its choices as the year's best in film and television.
"We are pleased the court affirmed our contract and look forward to working with the HFPA and NBC to nurture and expand the Golden Globes franchise for years to come," Mark Shapiro, chief executive officer of Dick Clark Productions, said in a statement Monday.
The HFPA sued the company in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, saying the producers violated their contract because they did not have the association's permission to strike a $150 million deal in 2010 to keep the show on NBC through 2018.
The Los Angeles Times said a spokesman for the HFPA and the association's legal counsel did not immediately respond to its requests for comment.
Producer and TV personality Dick Clark died nearly two weeks ago after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 82.
'Bridesmaids,' 'Hunger Games' earn 8 MTV Movie nods apiece
NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- The wedding comedy "Bridesmaids" and survival drama "The Hunger Games" earned eight MTV Movie Award nominations apiece in New York Tuesday.
Both are nominated for Movie of the Year, along with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which is up for a total of six trophies; "The Help" with four nods and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" with two mentions.
In the running for Best Female Performance are Emma Stone for "Crazy, Stupid, Love," Emma Watson for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," Jennifer Lawrence for "The Hunger Games," Kristen Wiig for "Bridesmaids" and Rooney Mara for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
Nominated for Best Male Performance are Channing Tatum for "The Vow," Daniel Radcliffe for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," Joseph Gordon-Levitt for "50/50," Josh Hutcherson for "The Hunger Games" and Ryan Gosling for "Drive."
Shortlisted for the Best Cast prize are the stars of "21 Jump Street," "Bridesmaids," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "The Help" and "The Hunger Games."
The fan-voted awards are to be handed out June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.
'Once' up for 11 Tony Awards
NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- The Irish musical "Once" led the field with 11 nominations when Tony Award nods were announced Tuesday in New York.
"The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" and "Nice Work If You Can Get It" followed close behind with 10 nominations apiece. "Peter and the Starcatcher" is up for nine awards, while "Follies" and "Newsies" each are in the running for eight, and "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman" and "One Man, Two Guvnors" are mentioned in seven categories.
Up for Best Play are "Clybourne Park," "Other Desert Cities," "Peter and the Starcatcher" and "Venus in Fur."
Shortlisted for Best Musical are "Leap of Faith," "Newsies," "Nice Work If You Can Get It" and "Once."
The nominees for Best Revival of a Play are "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman," "Gore Vidal's The Best Man," "Master Class" and "Wit."
Nominated for Best Revival of a Musical are "Evita," "Follies," "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."

The 66th annual Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS June 10, live from New York's Beacon Theatre. Honoring the year's best in Broadway theater, the awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Actor Neil Patrick Harris is to serve as host of the prize presentation.
