Hudson's former brother-in-law, William Balfour, is on trial for shooting her mother, brother and sister Julia's son.

The Chicago Tribune said the Oscar-winner also left the courtroom Tuesday when graphic evidence was presented during the second day of Balfour's trial.

Cook County Deputy Medical Examiner Mitra Kalelkar showed the images of Hudson's young nephew Wednesday morning, explaining how Julian King was shot twice in the head as he lay face down in the back of a sport utility vehicle, the Tribune reported. The child's body was found three days later in the abandoned vehicle.

The newspaper said Hudson returned to the courtroom as a Chicago police officer testified about how Balfour's cellphone records were used to trace his whereabouts and activities in the time period the slayings took place.

BOBBY BROWN: R&B star Bobby Brown was fined $390 and ordered to attend a 90-day alcohol-education program after pleading no contest to DUI, officials in Los Angeles said.

UsMagazine.com reported an attorney entered the plea on the 43-year-old New Edition singer's behalf Wednesday.

Brown was sentenced to three years' probation and a day in Los Angeles County jail but he received credit for time served and will not spend any more time behind bars, the Web site said.

Brown was arrested March 26 after police pulled him over for driving while talking on his cellphone. Police said he appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test.

Brown's ex-wife, singer Whitney Houston, accidentally drowned in a hotel bathtub the month before Brown's arrest. She was 48 when she died after years of drug abuse.

JANE GOODALL: Famed primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall is to serve as grand marshal of the 2013 Tournament of Roses festivities in Pasadena, Calif., organizers said.

The founder of the Jane Goodall Institute is a well-known conservationist and a United Nations Messenger of Peace.

On New Year's Day, she will ride in the 124th Rose Parade presented by Honda and themed "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" She will then toss the coin before the 99th Rose Bowl Game.

"We selected our theme, 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!' with Dr. Goodall in mind as grand marshal," Tournament of Roses President Sally Bixby said in a statement Wednesday. "The theme can be interpreted as a celebration of accomplishment, discovery and travel of course, but equally valid is its implicit call to action. We think Dr. Goodall's life story is a testament to the sense of adventure and openness to possibility that this phrase suggests: As a young woman, she defied convention to follow her dreams, and she has committed herself to a life of global citizenship, inspiring children and adults alike along the way. 2013 will be the 53rd anniversary of her field study of the Gombe chimpanzees. I can think of no one whose life has better exemplified our theme and message than Dr. Jane Goodall. Dr. Goodall is now an international icon, but it is her passion for discovery and how she has used her celebrity for the betterment of the world that has drawn us to her."
