New Diana letters hint at Camilla
LONDON, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A letter from Britain's Princess Diana suggests she had an early meeting of the minds with rival Camilla Parker Bowles, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Prior to her marriage to Prince Charles, the 1981 letter from Diana to her stepmother, Countess Spencer, indicated she felt secure enough to make a lengthy trip to Australia following a conversation with someone referred to only as "she."
"Thinking back to 'she'(!) of our conversations I think it's so right for me to go to Australia and not long, 2½ weeks will do both of us good," Diana wrote.
"I only hope that in the end we will all be able to smile," she added.
The Daily Telegraph said Saturday the handwritten letter was composed at Diana's London apartment just two weeks before Charles proposed to her. Diana later said she knew her husband had rekindled his relationship with Camilla after they had been married.
The newspaper said the intriguing letter was one of two she wrote to the countess in the early 1980s and will be auctioned off later this month on behalf of a seller who used to work for Diana's family.
Adele sings for first time since surgery
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- British singer Adele gave fans a preview of her upcoming performance at the Grammy Awards, her first since having vocal cord surgery.
Adele performed her hit "Rolling in the Deep," a capella on Anderson Cooper's "60 Minutes Overtime," "Access Hollywood" reported Friday.
Adele was forced to cancel a 10-day sold-out U.S. tour in October when she suffered a vocal cord hemorrhage.
The doctor who performed the surgery to correct the singer's bleeding, Steven Zeitels, the director of Massachusetts General Hospital Voice Center, said he wouldn't be surprised if she was back on tour again before long, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
"When I do that kind of operation, the typical time someone starts singing again is 3 1/2 to five weeks," he said.
Lucas: 3D release not about money
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- George Lucas said the decision to re-release the Star Wars films in 3D was not about making money, but letting young audiences to see the films in the theater.
"Star Wars is one of those films -- old films -- that was designed for the big screen," Lucas told the Hollywood Reporter Friday. "It makes a big difference to see it on the big screen with the overwhelming sound, the picture and now 3D. We've had two generations be able to see it on the big screen and it was great. Now kids who have never seen it on the big screen, who have no idea how powerful it was -- because all they had was DVD -- have that chance."
"Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace," the first in the six-part series though filmed fourth, will open in more than 2,500 North American theaters Friday. Lucas said the plan is to release one Star Wars movie in 3D each year for the next five years.
At first, Lucas said, he "wasn't a giant fan of 3D. The process was very difficult, and it wasn't something that I felt that much affection for. I just didn't think the effect was worth it. It was all about the effects and putting everything right out there. The idea of going to a movie and having people stick things in your face just because of an effect or the trick of it wasn't really that interesting to me."
But in 2005, after converting 10 minutes of one of the Star Wars films into 3D, he thought " 'Hey, this actually looks better. This is actually more interesting to me. The three-dimension is actually the better way of looking at things,'" he recalled. "So I got converted at that point."
Goodman, Barr could reunite
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Former "Roseanne" actors John Goodman and Roseanne Barr could reunite in a new NBC comedy, Variety reported.
Goodman, who played Dan Conner in the ABC hit "Roseanne," is close to finalizing a deal to co-star in the pilot of "Downwardly Mobile," Variety said.
The NBC show would feature Barr as the owner of a trailer home park who acts as a surrogate mother to its residents. If the deal is finalized, Goodman would play an ex-Marine who lives at the park.
Barr was Goodman's wife in "Roseanne," which ran from 1988 to 1997. Since then, Goodman has had a number of supporting roles in television and film, like HBO's "Treme" and the Oscar-nominated "The Artist."
