Director Bobby Farrelly's son dead at 20
COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Jesse Farrelly, the 20-year-old son of filmmaker Bobby Farrelly, has died in Costa Mesa, Calif., after a long battle with drug addiction, his family said.
Jesse had small roles in "Something About Mary" and "Hall Pass," big-screen comedies his dad wrote, directed and produced with his brother Peter, Jesse's uncle.
"It is with profound sorrow that we accept the passing of our beloved Jesse following his struggle with addiction. We fully trust that he is now in the hands of our Lord," the Farrelly family said in a statement Friday.
"We are immeasurably grateful for the abundance of happiness and laughter he brought into our lives, and we will rejoice eternally for all the moments we got to breathe in his wondrous spirit. The family thanks you for your well-wishes and kindly asks that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
TMZ said Jesse Farrelly died Wednesday night of an apparent drug overdose.
An autopsy conducted Thursday proved inconclusive and officials are awaiting the results of toxicology tests before determining the cause of his death.
Madonna not happy about M.I.A. gesture
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. pop icon Madonna says she "wasn't happy" after rapper M.I.A. flipped her middle finger at a camera during their Super Bowl halftime show.
The NFL and NBC immediately apologized for M.I.A.'s behavior and for the network's failure to keep it off of television.
Madonna called in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Friday to give her perspective on the incident.
"I didn't know about it until I left. I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it," Madonna told Seacrest.
"I wasn't happy about it. I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity. It seemed negative. It's one of those things, it's such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do… There was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point? It was just out of place," she said.
Washington: Reynolds gave me a black eye
NEW YORK, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Hollywood film star Denzel Washington says he sustained his first black eye during a fight scene with Ryan Reynolds, his co-star in the thriller "Safe House."
Asked at a recent press conference in New York if anyone was hurt while making the action picture, Washington told reporters, "Ryan gave me a black eye."
"There's a scene where I reach over [a car seat] to try to choke him and I have handcuffs on. We were flying around in the car. He wasn't actually driving the car, it was being controlled by somebody else. So, it just happened as I was reaching forward, he was flying back and pow!" the 57-year-old double-Oscar winner recalled.
"And that was my early retirement," quipped Reynolds, who was sitting beside Washington. "I've given Denzel Washington a black eye, I should probably go home.
"That first look you gave me after it happened, I just ...," Reynolds, 35, said to his co-star.
"That was a real look," Washington laughed.
"It felt real," Reynolds replied. "It was weird to feel my face on fire [from embarrassment]."
"It was strange because I'd never had a black eye in my life, but I can't say that anymore," Washington admitted.
"I'm glad I was your first. If it was going to be anyone, it was an apologetic Canadian," Reynolds joked.
