NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The Peter Pan origin story "Peter and the Starcatcher" is to open on Broadway this March, the producers of the new American play said Thursday.

Written by Rick Elice and directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, the stage drama is to begin preview performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre March 28, with an official opening night set for April 15.

The show played to rave reviews when it premiered off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop last March.

Based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, the Broadway production of "Peter and the Starcatcher" will feature a company of 12 actors playing 50 characters "all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become 'the Boy Who Refused to Grow Up?'" the producers said in a news release.
