HONOLULU, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan told police in Hawaii someone made off with $10,000 from her $5,000 designer purse.

The entertainment news Web site TMZ reported Lohan left the purse in a car while she attended a house party in Laie for a couple of hours Saturday night and when she came out, the purse, which contained her passport and her probation papers in addition to the cash, had vanished.

TMZ said sources said a Lohan friend eventually spotted a suspicious-looking local and asked if he knew anything about the missing purse. He allegedly denied knowing anything about it, but showed up with the bag minutes later, saying he found it on the street.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported a Laie resident who was at the party in the largely Mormon neighborhood said Lohan, 25, had arrived at the drug- and alcohol-free party about 11 p.m.

"It was the most bizarre thing and it was bizarre on so many levels," Clark Cahoon said. "If you're looking for somewhere to go that doesn't have drugs or alcohol, you won't find anything more wholesome than a party at a Mormon home. The hardest thing you'll find is maybe an energy drink. So, it was bizarre when she showed up and it just got more bizarre from there.

"Everybody knew who she was but they tried to give her some space. Still, it was the elephant in the room."

Lohan is due back in court in Los Angeles Wednesday for a probation hearing.
