"They spent a lot of time with the puppies," Johnston told People. "I was told that [Gomez] was missing the dogs that she has at home."

Gomez, who performed in Winnipeg during the weekend, has five rescue dogs at home.

Johnston said Gomez fell in love with a puppy and left with the dog after going through the shelter's standard screening process.

Gomez named the puppy Baylor, Johnston said.
