LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Los Angeles wrapped up their case Monday in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, accused of manslaughter in the death of pop star Michael Jackson.

The final witness called by the prosecution was Dr. Steven Shafer, a prominent anesthesiologist who testified there was no way Jackson could have given himself a fatal dose of the surgical anesthesia propofol, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Shafer said he believed Jackson was given 40 times more propofol than Murray, who was Jackson's personal doctor, admitted to police.

Murray's defense team will begin calling witnesses to counter four weeks of prosecution testimony from 33 witnesses, the newspaper said.
