Big crowds at Legoland Florida opening

WINTER HAVEN, Fla., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Legoland Florida opened this weekend with some visitors spending an hour in line waiting to get in, managers of the amusement park said.

The attraction drew a good crowd Saturday to the site of the old Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, which extended its hours to accommodate the crowd.

"We're extremely pleased with the turnout today," park spokeswoman Jackie Wallace told the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel. "Lots of smiling faces."

Legoland did not provide an official attendance figure; however, the Sentinel said Sunday that enough people showed up without advance tickets that a bottleneck developed at the entrance during the morning hours.

But once everyone got in, the reviews turned positive.

"The worst line was the one coming in," said Ted Craig of Miami. "The great thing about it is that it's extremely kid-friendly."

Legoland Florida is the fifth and largest of the Legoland parks in the United States and Europe. A sixth park is planned in Malaysia.
