'Dophin Tale' leaps to top box office spot

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- "Dophin Tale," starring Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd, jumped from No. 3 to the top spot at the U.S. box office during the weekend, grossing $14.2 million.

"Moneyball," starring Brad Pitt and Robin Wright, claimed the No. 2 spot in its second week at $12.5 million, while the 3-D re-release of the 1994 animated feature "The Lion King" dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 at $11 million.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"50/50" was fourth with $8.9 million; "Courageous" fifth with $8.8 million; "Dream House" sixth with $8.2 million; "Abduction" seventh with $5.7 million; "What's Your Number?" eighth with $5.6 million; and "Contagion" ninth with $5 million.

"Killer Elite" rounded out the Top 10 with $4.9 million.
