LONDON, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- British pop art icon Richard Hamilton has died, The Gagosian Gallery announced. He was 89.
The BBC said the man known as the "Father of Pop" died following a short illness. The nature of his ailment was not disclosed.
Best known for his 1956 collage featuring a body builder and a can of ham, the artist had been working on a retrospective of his work in the days leading up to his death, the British broadcaster noted.
