NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Human-rights groups are condemning the decision to allow Gulnara Karimova, the daughter of Uzbek dictator Islam Karimov, to show her clothing line in New York. The New York Post said Karimova is set to show her collection at Fashion Week Sept. 15.

"There's nothing fashionable about lending a high-profile platform to the senior official of one of the world's most repressive governments," Steve Swerdlow, Uzbekistan researcher at Human Rights Watch, told the Post.
A spokesman for Fashion Week producer IMG told the newspaper it has asked Karimova's company to cancel the show due to the uproar, but the label has not agreed to do so.
"The event is exploring its legal options for cancellation," the Fashion Week spokesman told the newspaper.
The Post said the designer's father has close ties to Mercedes-Benz, the event's chief sponsor, but said neither Karimova nor Mercedes-Benz returned calls requesting comment on its story.
