An 84-year-old woman was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian after she allegedly hit Witherspoon with her car in Santa Monica Wednesday morning as the actress crossed a street, the entertainment news Web site TMZ reported.

Witherspoon, a married mother of two young children, won an Oscar for her work in "Walk the Line."

Her other film credits include "Cruel Intentions," "Election," "Legally Blonde" and "The Importance of Being Earnest."

ANDREA MITCHELL: U.S. broadcast journalist Andrea Mitchell said Wednesday she recently started treatment for breast cancer.

"I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week, but instead discovered that I am now among the 1 in 8 women in this country -- incredibly 1 in 8 -- who have had breast cancer," UsMagazine.com quoted the 64-year-old reporter and anchor as saying on her MSNBC show, "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

Mitchell, who also is chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News, went on to explain her illness "was discovered during my annual screening just a short time ago."

"Luckily for me, I am one of the fortunate ones; we discovered it in the earliest stage, it hadn't spread, and I'm already back at work with a terrific prognosis," Mitchell said.

WILL & KATE: A representative for Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate said the royal newlyweds aren't expecting twins, contrary to tabloid reports claiming they are.

The publicist told UsMagazine.com Kate is not, in fact, pregnant at all.

"Suffice to say that were it true, it would be us that announces it, not a gossip magazine," the representative said Wednesday.

William and Kate married last April in London after about eight years of dating.

ALICIA KEYS: Dule Hill, Mekhi Phifer, Tracie Thoms, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Condola Rashad are to star in the Broadway premiere of "Stick Fly," producers said.

Previews of Lydia R. Diamond's play, which is being produced by recording star Alicia Keys, are to begin Nov. 18 with Kenny Leon directing.

Opening night is scheduled for Dec. 8 at Manhattan's Cort Theatre.

"My producing partners and I are thrilled to have such a strong and talented ensemble cast assembled," Keys said in a statement Wednesday. "Having this incredible group of actors to help bring Lydia's beautiful play to life is going to take Broadway's wattage to the next level."
