'The Help' cleans up for third week

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- "The Help," with Emma Stone and an ensemble cast, held the No. 1 spot at the U.S. box office for a third weekend with more than $14 million in receipts.

"Colombiana" debuted at the No. 2 spot with more than $10 million while "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" opened at No. 3 with $8.7 million.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes," with James Franco among others, was No. 4 in its fourth week with $8.6 million.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Our Idiot Brother," starring Paul Rudd, opened at No. 5 with $6.6 million; "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World" was sixth with $5.7 million; "The Smurfs" was seventh with $4.8 million; "Conan the Barbarian (2011)" was eighth with $3.1 million; "Fright Night (2011)" was ninth with $3 million; and "Crazy, Stupid, Love" rounded out the Top 10 with $2.9 million.


Tom Jones experiences 'heart scare'

MONTE CARLO, Monaco, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Singer Tom Jones was taken to a hospital in Monte Carlo with an apparent heart problem, the producer of a weekend concert that was canceled said.

David King announced the cancellation of Saturday's show at The Sporting Club via Twitter, saying Jones, 71, had suffered "a heart scare."

The West Australian said Sunday hospital officials in Monte Carlo would not confirm Jones had been treated.

The Sporting Club told the newspaper they had been informed the concert was being canceled because Jones had been taken to the hospital.


Marilyn Monroe statue in Chicago tagged

CHICAGO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Police say they are looking for the vandals who drew a tattoo and other graffiti on Chicago's 26-foot statue of Marilyn Monroe over the weekend.

The drawings included a heart on the leg of the statue and other doodling.

"I think it's horrible," Pat Johnson of Calumet City told the Chicago Tribune as she visited the statue at Pioneer Court.

Police launched an investigation when the defacing was discovered Saturday. The Chicago Sun-Times said it did not appear any suspects had been identified.


MTV's 'Punk'd' is back

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- MTV's "Punk'd" is officially back with a twist after a four-year absence -- the celebrity prank series now features different celebrity hosts for each episode.

The show, which debuted in 2003, will no longer feature Ashton Kutcher as host, though he will remain the executive producer of "Punk'd," Access Hollywood reported

The new season is kicked off filming Friday with Taylor Swift as the victim of a prank pulled by Justin Bieber, a source told the celebrity news Web site.

"Punk'd" has been on the shelf since 2007. In October 2010, it was rumored the show would be back with Bieber as a host, yet it appears he will only be involved in the first episode.
