LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- More than 52.3 million U.S. viewers tuned in to the networks of NBCUniversal for coverage of Britain's royal wedding last Friday, the media giant said Monday.

"NBC News is uniquely situated to capture the grandeur and spectacle of a royal wedding. It takes a powerful news division to attempt this while meeting the needs of dozens of the NBCUniversal networks, outlets and programs, and we are thrilled that audiences responded in such significant ways," NBC News President Steve Capus said in a statement Monday. "The combined remarkable talents of hundreds of individuals were drawn upon to meet our ambitious production demands."

TVGuide.com said an estimated 27 million people in the United Kingdom watched the ceremony.
