Texas beauty queen told she's too fat

SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A beauty queen sued to keep her title, "Miss San Antonio," in the face of several allegations, including that she gained weight, court records indicated.

Domonique Ramirez, 17, was accused by the pageant board of "gaining excessive weight, showing up late to official events, and insubordination," KIAH-TV, Houston, said.

Bexar County pageant board spokeswoman Linda Woods said as a reigning queen, Ramirez is expected to abide by the pageant's rules, regulations and contract terms.

"She was doing a photo shoot and asked to wear her wardrobe from the competition, but it did not fit her. I told her we need to get you on an exercise program. We need to get ready to compete for Miss Texas, just like any elite athlete," Woods said.

The pageant has already moved to give the crown to runner-up Ashley Dixon, the television station reported.

"I said, you know, 'Get off the tacos, get off the chips and the soda.' Because she's 17, and that's what these kids eat," Woods said.

Ramirez obtained a temporary restraining order postponing being stripped of her crown until a hearing on Feb. 16.

"I have shown up to every single event they have scheduled for me during my reign. I have been five or 10 minutes late to some, but only because I didn't have a chaperon, which they did promise me.

"If I get (to keep) my crown, great. If I don't, the only thing I'm asking is to clear my name. I'm 17. I shouldn't have to be slandered like this and my future shouldn't have to be ruined over this," Ramirez said.
