JOHN DYE: Actor John Dye has died from a heart attack at his home in San Francisco, his brother Jerre Dye said. He was 47.

John Dye, a Mississippi native, is best known for his work on the TV drama "Touched By An Angel." He died Monday, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

His film credits include "Making the Grade," "Modern Girls," "Campus Man," "Best of the Best" and "Heart of the Beholder."

The Los Angeles Times said a memorial service is scheduled for Jan. 22 at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, in Amory, Miss., John Dye's hometown.


COLIN FIRTH: "The Social Network" was named Best Picture at the 16th annual Critics' Choice Awards ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

Aaron Sorkin took home the trophy for Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie about the origins of the Facebook social networking system, while David Fincher won the Best Director prize for helming the film.

The cast of "The Fighter" won the Best Acting Ensemble prize, while co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo were recognized individually as Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

The Best Actor gong went to Colin Firth for "The King's Speech," for which David Seidler earned the Best Original Screenplay prize.

Natalie Portman was declared Best Actress for her work in "Black Swan" and "True Grit" star Hailee Steinfeld won the award for Best Young Actor/Actress.

"Inception" won the Critics' Choice Awards for Best Action Movie, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing.

"Easy A" earned the title of Best Comedy, "Toy Story 3" picked up the prize for Best Animated Movie, "Waiting for Superman" was named Best Documentary and "The Pacific" won the award for Best Picture Made for Television.


MARTHA STEWART: U.S. media mogul Martha Stewart says she received stitches in her lip after her startled French bulldog Francesca head-butted her.

Stewart said the mishap happened as she was leaving her Bedford, N.Y., home to go to work in Manhattan.

"As I leaned down to whisper goodbye to a dozing Francesca, I must have startled her, because she bolted upright with such force that she hit me in the face like a boxing glove hitting an opponent's face," the New York Daily News reported Stewart wrote on her blog Wednesday.

"I was entirely startled and my neck snapped back. I felt a bit of whiplash as blood gushed forth from my split lip. Frannie was as upset as I was and cowered in her bed."


ALICIA SILVERSTONE: Alicia Silverstone's publicist has confirmed the U.S. film star and author is pregnant with her first child.

The 34-year-old actress is best known for her work in the 1995 movie "Clueless." She married musician Christopher Jarecki in 2005.

Her representative confirmed to UsMagazine.com the couple are expecting their first child.

The baby's due date was not reported.
