Absent was Prince William, who volunteered to work at Royal Air Force Valley, where he is stationed. His fiancee, Catherine Middleton, spent Christmas with her family.

A Sky News correspondent said hundreds of people watched the royals arrive at church.

"We've been doing it for a year or two, we just like to come down and see the royals," said a spectator named George. "We started doing it with my mum but now she's not very well, but I keep coming down here with my wife."

The queen was scheduled to broadcast a message later Saturday.

'Housewife' star in Beverly Hills fracas

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 25 (UPI) -- "Real Housewife of Beverly Hills" star Lisa Vanderpump and her guests were involved in a Christmas Eve altercation at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the star said.

Vanderpump, her husband, two elderly guests and a reporter were at the hotel early on Christmas Eve when the brouhaha occurred, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

An allegedly inebriated man, seated at a nearby table, reportedly told Vanderpump, "You're wearing a lot more makeup now and your eyes are darker and smokier," before asking, "Why are you sitting with old people?"

At that point, KNBC-TV reporter Robert Kovacik, who was part of Vanderpump's group, asked the man to stop and was punched in the jaw. The man then allegedly pushed Vanderpump's husband to the floor, the newspaper said.

When police arrived, Kovacik refused to file charges, but later changed his mind. The report didn't name the attacker or specify if he was arrested.

Vanderpump took Kovacik to plastic surgeon Paul Nassif, the husband of her co-star, Adrienne Maloof, the Times said. Kovacik received five deep sutures and 24 stitches and later filed charges against the alleged attacker.
