De Niro makes first 'Late Show' appearance

NEW YORK, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Screen icon Robert De Niro, known as a man of few words, has made his first appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" in New York.

CBS said De Niro and his "Little Fockers" co-star Dustin Hoffman taped an interview this week for the chat show to be broadcast Friday.

"We've been on the air for 30 years. Right now, we're on CBS. We used to be on NBC. I live in your neighborhood, literally, your neighborhood. We're neighbors, and this is your first time -- what have I done?" Letterman teased De Niro, star of "Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver."

"Oh, God, I don't know," De Niro replied. "I just -- well, whatever. Dustin, he'll explain to you."

"All right, Dustin, what's the story?" Letterman asked with a laugh.

"If you ask me the questions that you have designated for Bob," Hoffman replied, "I can maybe answer for him."

"You know," Letterman said, "this is not a legal proceeding."

"I am 'the De Niro Whisperer,'" Hoffman quipped as De Niro smiled.

Also lined up to appear on the genealogy show are Rosie O'Donnell, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie, Vanessa Williams and Ashley Judd, the network announced Thursday.

Season 2 is to premiere Feb. 4.

"Who Do You Think You Are?" is an adaptation of the British television documentary series in which celebrities learn about their family trees, NBC said in a synopsis.

"I've been a fan of the U.K. version of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' for a long time, so it's very rewarding that the U.S. version is back with more compelling stories this season that are illuminating, touching and aspirational," executive producer Lisa Kudrow said in a statement Thursday. "This is such a unique show for network television and we're all thrilled that the American audience has embraced it."
