Variety.com first reported his death, noting actress Julie Andrews, his wife of 41 years, and four children were at his side.

Edwards' publicist, Gene Schwam, said the cause of death was complications of pneumonia, The New York Times reported.

Among Edwards' film writing and directing credits are the "Pink Panther" series, "Operation Petticoat," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Days of Wine and Roses," "10," "The Party," "Victor-Victoria," "Micki & Maude," "The Man Who Loved Women," "Skin Deep," "Switch" and "Sunset."

Andrews has appeared in several of his pictures, including "S.O.B.," in which Edwards had her bare her breasts in a scene involving Hollywood's movie-making hypocrisy.

"There is a great deal of hypocrisy about public reaction to sex comedies," Edwards said in an interview in 1988. "They will laugh in theaters and later profess to have been shocked or disgusted."

SHELLEY MALIL: A San Diego judge sentenced actor Shelley Malil to life in prison Thursday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe more than 20 times, officials said.

Malil, 45, is best known for his work in the big-screen comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

He was convicted in September of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He will be eligible for parole in 12 years, E! News said.

"I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did," E! quoted Malil as saying in court.

MARIAH CAREY: U.S. television personality Nick Cannon has confirmed his pop-star wife Mariah Carey is pregnant with twins.

The children will be the first for the couple, who married in 2008.

"In order for my wife and I to have our life, we need to be up front and I need to be able to share things with you and be real," UsMagazine.com reported Cannon said on his 92.3 Now radio show Thursday.

"I didn't even tell my wife I was gonna do this," he added. "I'm probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission ... We are having twins!"

DAVID ARQUETTE: U.S. actor David Arquette clarified via Twitter Thursday that he was only kidding when he told radio interviewer Howard Stern he is having a nervous breakdown.

Arquette and his wife, actress Courteney Cox, recently announced they had split up. Since then, Arquette has appeared on Stern's show several times and lamented about how saddened he is that his marriage has ended.

UsMagazine.com said Stern asked him on the air Wednesday if he may be suffering from a nervous breakdown, to which Arquette replied, "I believe so."

However, the "Scream" star tweeted Thursday that he was only joking when he said that.

"It is being reported that I'm having a Nervous Breakdown," he said via Twitter. "I assure you am not. This stemmed from a joke I made. ... I always speak my mind and I really don't care what people that don't know me may say... I'm a good person with a huge heart. I thank those that have been on my side during this rough time."
