NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Late pop artist Andy Warhol's 1962 painting of a Coke bottle sold for $35.3 million at a New York auction, Sotheby's confirmed.
The New York Times said seven bidders competed to buy the work Tuesday night, which ultimately sold to a telephone bidder for more than $10 million higher than its $25 million high estimate. The identity of the buyer was not reported.
Collector Elizabeth Rea, the seller, purchased the painting with her late husband Michael at a Christie's auction in 1983 for $143,000, the Times said.
