Randy and Evi Quaid arrested in Canada

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi were taken into custody in Canada for alleged immigration violations, the CBC reported Friday.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said the couple were arrested sometime within the past two days and were to appear at an Immigration Refugee Board detention review hearing later Friday.

The news network said the Canada Border Services Agency and Vancouver police had not confirmed the celebrities had been arrested, though city police did say they called the agency to arrest an unnamed couple Wednesday afternoon on outstanding warrants from the United States.

"The pair were held for CBSA in the Vancouver jail and they were turned over to [the] Canada Border Services Agency this morning at 10:30 ... . As there are no Canadian charges or offenses committed, the names of the two individuals cannot be released," police said in a statement.

The Quaids face felony burglary charges and misdemeanor counts in California for allegedly moving back into and vandalizing a home they once owned in Santa Barbara. Both are wanted on $50,000 bench warrants issued by a judge in Santa Barbara.
