NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Film star Brendan Fraser is preparing for his Broadway debut in "Elling," a U.S. version of a play that ran in London in 2007.

Fraser, who acted in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in London's West End in 2001, will co-star with Tony Award-winner Denis O'Hare, fresh off his work in the current season of the HBO vampire series "True Blood"; Jennifer Coolidge, whose last Broadway stint was in the 2001 revival of "The Women"; and Richard Easton, who acted in "The Coast of Utopia," Variety reported Friday.

Doug Hughes, currently directing the revival of "Mrs. Warren's Profession," will direct "Elling" when it opens Nov. 21.

The story of a pair of mentally impaired roommates trying to cope once they're released from an institution is based on Ingvar Ambjornsen's Norwegian novels and the 2001 film version directed by Petter Naess.
