NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie returned to New Orleans this weekend to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Pitt was seen Friday touring homes in New Orleans' devastated Lower 9th Ward, USMagazine.com reported.

Pitt appeared on NBC Nightly News Friday, recalling his initial reaction to the destruction.

"It was unfathomable. I mean, just -- you had no idea that there were families and here," Pitt said. "It was just wiped clean. Except for the occasional pile up of homes and -- on top of homes."

In 2007, Pitt help establish the Make It Right Project, which so far has built 34 "eco-friendly" homes in the area, with the goal of reaching 150 structures, USMagazine.com said.
