LONDON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A representative for England's St. James Palace said Friday Prince William and Kate Middleton have no immediate plans to announce an engagement.

UsMagazine.com reported the palace official shot down swirling rumors the British prince and his longtime girlfriend plan to announce their engagement this fall and marry next summer.

"What absolute nonsense!" the palace representative told the Web site. "This is nothing more than speculation."

"Right now there (are) absolutely no wedding plans taking place. That is the truth," a separate source told UsMagazine.com.

William is the son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
