Ice-T arrested for suspended license

NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- Rapper-actor Ice-T indicated via Twitter he is furious over his arrest in New York for allegedly driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt.

The 52-year-old star, who has played a Manhattan cop on TV's "Law & Order: SVU" since 2000, was waiting at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel Tuesday morning when the mirror of his car brushed against a police officer at a random checkpoint, prompting the officer to try to pull Ice-T over, authorities told the New York Post.

The Post said the actor kept going, so the cop ran up to his car and banged on its tinted window to get him to stop. When he did, police said they discovered he had been driving with a suspended license, had no valid insurance and was not wearing a seat belt.

He was taken to a police station, given a desk-appearance ticket and released, the newspaper said.

"Some punk bitch rookie cop named Fisher made the arrest of his (expletive) career today," Ice-T later tweeted. "Arresting the Notorious Ice T for no seatbelt! . . . (The cop) said, 'I know who you are, and I don't give a (expletive.)' That was right after I called him a punk bitch."

He later told the Post, "I think (the officer) got his rocks off bringing me in the station in handcuffs."

Taylor Bills wins 'True Beauty'

LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Taylor Bills, a 24-year-old former professional baseball player from Irvine, Calif., is the grand prize winner of the reality show, "True Beauty," ABC said.

Bills beat out nine other contestants to claim the grand prize -- $100,000 and a photo featured in an upcoming edition of People magazine.

During the 8-episode series, Bills and his fellow contestants thought they were competing to become "The Face of Las Vegas." However, they were actually competing to determine who demonstrated "true beauty" inside and out, the network noted in a news release Tuesday.

At the end of each episode, judges Vanessa Minnillo, Carson Kressley and Beth Stern eliminated one contestant whose behavior did not measure up.

Clooney to receive Hope humanitarian Emmy

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Wednesday it plans to present Hollywood actor George Clooney with its Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

The award-winning actor-director-producer, internationally renowned for his humanitarian efforts, is the fourth person to be presented with the Television Academy's tribute honoring the legacy of comedian Bob Hope, who died in 2003 at the age of 100.

The special Emmy is presented to an individual in the telecommunications industry whose humanitarian work has brought credit to the industry and whose deeds and actions have a lasting impact on society, the Academy said.

The previous winners of the prize are Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby and the late Danny Thomas.

Clooney is to be presented with the honor Aug. 29 at the 62nd Prime time Emmy Awards show in Los Angeles.

"George was an obvious choice for this honor," John Shaffner, academy chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "He has understood and harnessed the power of television, the most powerful medium of our time, to reach into the hearts of people around the world and compelled us to action on behalf of those in sudden and desperate need as well those tragically oppressed in Darfur."

"Like my own father, George is a person who looks beyond himself to use his celebrity for good, to make a difference in the world, and to inspire others to do the same," added Linda Hope, Bob Hope's daughter. "It's particularly gratifying that he has been selected for this award, since our families have a history of friendship and a powerful, shared desire to help others."
