Will Smith nervous about daughter dating
NEW YORK, June 29 (UPI) -- The first New York revival of Alfred Uhry's stage drama "Driving Miss Daisy" is to open this fall, the play's producers said Tuesday.
Playbill.com reported the show will star James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave, and will be directed by David Esbjornson.
Previews are to begin Oct. 7 at Broadway's John Golden Theatre with an official opening planned for Oct. 25, the Web site said.
The play began as an off-Broadway production in 1987 and was adapted as an Oscar-winning film in 1989.
The drama is described in show notes as "a timeless, searing, funny and ultimately hopeful meditation on race relations in America, told through the complex relationship between two of popular culture's most enduring characters. When Daisy Werthan, a widowed, 72-year-old Jewish woman living in mid-century Atlanta, is deemed too old to drive, her son hires Hoke Colburn, an African-American man, to serve as her chauffeur. What begins as a troubled and hostile pairing, soon blossoms into a profound, life-altering friendship that transcends all the societal boundaries placed between them."
