PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla., June 6 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist joined singer-businessman Jimmy Buffett on a Florida beach Saturday to offer residents hope in the face of the oil spill disaster.

"You go through hardships in life," Buffett said Saturday in Pensacola Beach. People in the Panhandle are tough people. … It's sad in the world that everybody gets overly afraid of everything quick. We go clean it up and we go on with our lives. That's what we do," The Palm Beach Post reported Buffett said.

Buffett's new Margaritaville Beach Hotel, which Crist said will give the local economy a much-needed boost, is scheduled to open July 1 in Pensacola Beach.
