NEW YORK, March 29 (UPI) -- The Broadway revival of "The Miracle Worker" is to close April 4, a message on the play's Web site announced Monday.

Starring Abigail Breslin, Alison Pill, Matthew Modine and Jennifer Morrison, the fact-based drama about a determined teacher's relationship with a deaf and blind child in the late 1800s began preview performances Feb. 12 at Manhattan's Circle in the Square Theatre. It officially opened March 3.

"In spite of additional advertising, ticket sales did not pick up as much as we thought they would," producer Dini von Mueffling said in a statement issued to The New York Times. "Closing is the only fiscally prudent choice, as difficult and sad a decision as it is."
