LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Brooke Mueller, the wife of TV star Charlie Sheen, is being treated for substance abuse at The Canyon rehab in Malibu, Calif., a celebrity Web site said.
TMZ reported Monday that Mueller checked into the facility Feb. 9.
Mueller and Sheen, who are the parents of infant twin sons, made headlines in December when Mueller told police her husband held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her at their vacation home in Aspen, Colo.
Sheen was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged incident but has denied any wrongdoing.
TMZ said Mueller's stint in rehab could hurt her credibility, and subsequently the prosecution's case against Sheen, because she reportedly had been drinking alcohol in the hours leading up to the alleged incident.
The couple has since reconciled and said they hope they can put the Dec. 25, 2009, incident behind them.
