Cowell's Haiti relief single released
LONDON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The Haiti charity song "Everybody Hurts," recorded by Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole and Susan Boyle, has been released online.
Organized by producer Simon Cowell and featuring the vocal talents of Mika, James Blunt, James Morrison, Alexandra Burke and Robbie Williams, the cover of the R.E.M. song became available as a digital download Sunday and went on sale as a CD single in stores Monday, the BBC said.
Proceeds from the sale of the single are to go to the Disasters Emergency Committee and the Sun newspaper's Helping Haiti campaign in order to give relief to those affected by the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti.
The 5 1/2-minute-long music video of the song shows footage of the singers recording in a studio, woven in with scenes from devastated Haiti, the British broadcaster said.
Dave, Oprah, Jay pull off 'Super' surprise
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A surprise Super Bowl ad featuring U.S. celebrities David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey and Jay Leno was planned and filmed in strict secrecy, a CBS executive said.
Rob Burnett, the producer of CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman," told the Los Angeles Times Leno traveled unannounced to New York last Tuesday. Leno wore a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a fake mustache to avoid attention when he arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Letterman's show is produced.
That's where the ad -- a brief scene depicting Letterman, Winfrey and Leno watching the Super Bowl together and, evidently uncomfortable -- was filmed.
"We wanted desperately to keep this a secret," Burnett told the Times.
The newspaper said the only other CBS official besides Burnett who knew the plan was Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves. Leno's executive producer, Debbie Vickers, NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin and NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker also knew what was going on, the Times said.
Letterman wrote the script for the ad and Winfrey agreed to do it when he pitched it to her, the report said. Leno agreed a short time later to go along with the gag.
Burnett said he thought Leno simply saw the ad as "a funny piece to be doing on the Super Bowl" and the only thing Letterman cared about was: "Is it funny?"
Prejean and Boller get engaged
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Former Miss California Carrie Prejean has gotten engaged to St. Louis Rams quarterback Kyle Boller, a source told E! News.
The couple have been dating since last July.
An insider told E! Boller, 28, proposed to Prejean, 22, during the weekend in Prejean's hometown of San Diego. No other details about the happy occasion were immediately reported.
Prejean sparked controversy last year when she answered a question about gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant by saying she believes marriage should be defined as the legal union of a man and a woman.
Pageant organizers later stripped her of her Miss California title, stating she did not live up to her obligations. Prejean has maintained it was her conservative views that led to her ousting.
Jolie, Pitt take eldest to Super Bowl
MIAMI, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Celebrity couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were photographed with their 8-year-old son, Maddox, at the Super Bowl in Florida Sunday night.
UsMagazine.com said the film stars were seen kissing and hugging in their VIP skybox at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens as the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17.
Jolie and Pitt, who own a home in New Orleans, have been dogged by breakup rumors in recent weeks, but their appearances at Sunday's football game and the recent Directors Guild of America awards ceremony seem to suggest they are still very much together.
They have six children. Maddox is the eldest.
"Brad and Angelina looked perfectly happy together -- so much so that it seems impossible that there were all of those recent reports suggesting they were separating," an onlooker told the celebrity Web site X17.
