LAHAINA, Hawaii, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. comedian Roseanne Barr performed to a sold-out audience as part of the new "Maui Celebrity Series," series producers said.
Barr, who is best known for her stand-up work and eponymous sit-com "Roseanne," performed at The Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina Jan. 23.
"We are amazed at the response this series has received. From media coverage in China to New Zealand, it's been incredible," co-producer Arman Zajic said in a statement. "From William Shatner, who was here for our first show last month, to Joan Rivers, we're rocking and rolling."
Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle presented the producers of the series with a commendation last week for attracting popular performers and attention to the island.
"Maui doesn't really have a venue for top-tier acts, so this is really incredible," Zajic said. "Roseanne Barr, a four-time Emmy Award winner, does not play 300 seats. We make it a vacation for the celebrity, and we're in talks with everyone from Steve Martin to Pee-Wee Herman about trying to get them out here, and we're lining them up for Maui."
