Lawyer: Coleman not charged with assault
SANTAQUIN CITY, Utah, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Gary Coleman's lawyer says the former U.S. child television actor was arrested after a disturbance at his house, but not charged with assault.
Attorney Randy Kester told People.com the one-time "Diff'rent Strokes" star was arrested during the weekend in Santaquin City, Utah, on a misdemeanor failure-to-appear-in-court warrant, not for domestic assault as has been widely reported.
"This is a lot less serious than it seems," Kester told the magazine's Web site. "He was not arrested for assault."
Kester said it was unclear what matter the failure to appear warrant concerned.
Santaquin City police told People.com they responded to Coleman's home Sunday for an unspecified "civil disturbance," but emphasized no criminal charges have been filed against him in connection with the incident.
Coleman reportedly was released from police custody after posting $1,725 bail.
The 41-year-old actor has seen his career overshadowed in recent years by reports of his health problems and legal woes.
Earlier this month, he was hospitalized after suffering a seizure. More recently, he settled a lawsuit brought against him by a fan who says Coleman tried to run him over with his truck when he attempted to take a photo of him with his cell phone in a bowling alley parking lot. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The actor also appeared on TV's "Divorce Court" with his wife, Shannon Price, to hash out some of their marital problems in 2008 and Price reportedly was arrested after a domestic violence incident involving the actor last year.
