Polanski to remain in jail for weekend

ZURICH, Switzerland, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Roman Polanski will stay in a Swiss jail until at least Monday, then be transferred to house arrest at his chalet after the terms of his bail are met.

Polanski, 76, was arrested Sept. 26 in Zurich in a 1977 child-sex case in Los Angeles.

The famous filmmaker, who lives in France but was in Switzerland to attend a film festival, has not traveled to the United States since he pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court to having unlawful sex with a minor and then fled the country before he could be sentenced. He was accused of drugging and having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Polanski's lawyers have alleged misconduct on the part of the Los Angeles criminal justice system at the time of the plea deal, and are fighting extradition from Switzerland to the United States.

Although he was granted bail in the amount of $4.5 million this week, Swiss Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli told The Hollywood Reporter Friday more time is needed to fulfill the terms of the agreement before he can leave jail.

In addition to paying the bail, remaining under house arrest and wear an electronic monitoring device, the director must also surrender his passports and travel documents, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The New York Post said Kimmel shot down the rumor in an interview with ESPN's Bill Simmons.

"Someone from 50 Cent's camp wanted to use the phone in Marv Albert's empty dressing room," Kimmel said. "A security guard told the man he couldn't. Pushes were exchanged for three seconds, and the situation was resolved before Marv even got in the room. Marv had no idea what was happening or who was involved."
